The entry of E. Mettler-Müller as a sole proprietorship in the commercial register on 5 March 1883 is the start of the company history of today's Arova Mettler Ag. Named after its owner, Emil Mettler-Müller, the company was initially purely an embroidery shop that produced so-called 'Tischliware' (tablecloths). Later, the embroidery shop was extended to include a spinning mill that produced the necessary embroidery thread.

All kinds of decorative covers ensured the decoration of tables and other items of furniture. In the 1950s, the embroidery shop was dissolved and the company concentrated from then onwards on the production of high-quality sewing threads. A comprehensive range of sewing and embroidery threads developed over the course of time. In 1954, Amann had the first polyester thread with Seralon and was the first sewing thread manufacturer to offer the '3 thread concept' (silk, cotton, polyester).

For a long time, Mettler-Müller AG had had close ties with four other Swiss textile companies. At the beginning of 1968, the merger with these companies took place to form the Arova Group, which resulted in the change of name to the current Arova Mettler AG. One year later, i.e. 1969, Heberlein Holding AG, assumed a majority stake in the holding company of the Arova Group, Arova AG. Just under 20 years later, Amann & Söhne GmbH & Co. in Bönnigheim took over Arova Mettler AG as a subsidiary. In 1995, the production was relocated from Rorschach (near to St. Gallen in Switzerland) to Dietenheim (Germany); global distribution was and continues to be managed from Rorschach. The quality standard of Amann Group Mettler ensures that every sewing idea gets a first-class implementation with the products.

The high-quality range is produced in Germany and at other sites with outstanding raw materials - in Germany alone, approx. 550,000 km of thread are created every day, or the equivalent of 14 times the Earth's circumference. And since the beginning of 2009, a comprehensive range of colours and threads has been offered for sewing, embroidery, quilting and overlocking under the brand name Amann Group Mettler.

ACTIVE AROUND THE WORLD

Today, production sites around the world, autonomous sales organisations for more than 80 national and international markets as well as the sophisticated logistics system with central warehouse and decentralised depots ensure seamless corporate processes. One of the principles valid at the company is behind that: 'Think global – act local'. The motto is of course not only the basis of the goods logistics but also of the complete service package. For at Arova Mettler we are aware that the bigger the company, the greater the risk that personal contacts and individual advice fall by the wayside. The size of the company was thus expanded for the customer's benefit. The indoor sales team ensure that the goods arrive quickly and reliably at the specialist dealers, irrespective of whether the order is placed via the field sales team, by post, fax, telephone or Internet. The professional team also supports the retail partners in matters of advertising and sales promotion, with shopwindow decorations and large-scale sales promotions and/or marketing campaigns. The handling of all steps is made as easily as possible. All goods are of course marked with the EAN code for shop till systems.

Arova Mettler AG has developed a good market position for itself. Many hobby tailors and as well as quilters and creative people around the world put their trust in the brand which also meets high quality requirements of active seamstresses. For through the elaborate production processes and the permanent quality checks, the manufacturing company ensures a high-quality range of products. And of course a broad range which includes, among others, practical basic range packages. The range of threads for all-round sewing, for embroidering and darning or quilting, with overlock threads and much more can be used in all areas of sewing and with all materials – from cotton, silk and mixed materials to synthetics, from an elegant blouse to a robust pair of jeans. 

GIVING THE CONCEPTS SPACE

Good business facilities also ensure high-sales business in retail. The fittings and equipment also play a fundamental role here. The presentation systems ensure that the shop fittings are ideal and the customer ideally finds his/her way around. The new modular sales presentation systems, for example, have also been developed for this – for an individually designed, flexible and attractive interior. With this patented cartridge system, changes in the product range can be implemented in no time at all. The automatic refill indicator reminds the retailer to order in a timely manner.
